SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy and Prayer for the new year - Feast of St. Basil the Great & Circumcision of the Lord
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE \nMy mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. \nHear this\, all ye people. \nThe reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Colossians. (2:8-12) \nBrethren\, see to it that no one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit\, according to human tradition\, according to the elemental spirits of the universe\, and not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily\, and you have come to fullness of life in Him\, Who is the head of all rule and authority. In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands\, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; and you were buried with Him in baptism\, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God\, Who raised Him from the dead. \n\nTHE GOSPEL \nThe reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (2:20-21\, 40-52) \nAnd it came to pass that the shepherds returned\, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen\, as it had been told them. And at the end of eight days\, when He was circumcised\, He was called Jesus\, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. And the child grew and became strong\, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon Him. Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when He was twelve years old\, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended\, as they were returning\, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it\, but supposing Him to be in the company they went a day’s journey\, and they sought Him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; and when they did not find Him\, they returned to Jerusalem\, seeking Him. After three days they found Him in the temple\, sitting among the teachers\, listening to them and asking them questions; and all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers. And when they saw Him they were astonished; and His mother said to Him\, “Son\, why hast Thou treated us so? Behold\, Thy father and I have been looking for Thee anxiously.” And Jesus said to them\, “How is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be in My Father’s house?” And they did not understand the saying which He spoke to them. And He went down with them and came to Nazareth\, and was obedient to them; and His mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature\, and in favor with God and man.

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy – Sunday After Nativity
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE \n(For the Sunday after Nativity of Christ) \nGod is wondrous in His saints. Bless God in the congregations. \nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians. (1:11-19) \nBrethren\, I would have you know that the Gospel\, which was preached by me\, is not man’s gospel.  For I did not receive it from man\, nor was I taught it\, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ.  For you have heard of my former life in Judaism\, how I persecuted the Church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people; so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers.  But when He who had set me apart before I was born\, and had called me through His grace\, was pleased to reveal His Son to me\, in order that I might preach Him among the Gentiles\, I did not confer with flesh and blood\, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me\, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus.  Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas\, and remained with him fifteen days.  But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord’s brother. \nTHE GOSPEL \n(For the Sunday after Nativity of Christ) \nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (2:13-23) \nWhen the wise men had departed\, behold\, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said\, “Rise\, take the Child and His mother\, and flee to Egypt\, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the Child\, to destroy Him.”  And he rose and took the Child and His mother by night\, and departed to Egypt\, and remained there until the death of Herod.  This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet\, “Out of Egypt have I called My Son.”  Then Herod\, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men\, was in a furious rage\, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region\, who were two years old or under\, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men.  Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: “A voice was heard in Ramah\, wailing and loud lamentation\, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled\, because they were no more.”  But when Herod died\, behold\, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt\, saying\, “Rise\, take the Child and His mother\, and go to the land of Israel\, for those who sought the Child’s life are dead.”  And he rose and took the Child and His mother\, and went to the land of Israel.  But when he heard that Archelaus reigned over Judea in place of his father Herod\, he was afraid to go there\, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee.  And he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth\, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled\, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy – Sunday Before Nativity
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE \n(For the Sunday before the Nativity) \nBlessed are Thou\, O Lord\, the God of our fathers. \nFor Thou art justified in all that Thou hast done for us. \nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews. (11:9-10\, 32-40) \nBrethren\, by faith Abraham sojourned in the land of promise\, as in a foreign land\, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob\, heirs with him of the same promise. For he looked forward to the city which has foundations\, whose builder and maker is God. And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon\, Barak\, Samson\, Jephthah\, of David and Samuel and the prophets—who through faith conquered kingdoms\, enforced justice\, received promises\, stopped the mouths of lions\, quenched raging fire\, escaped the edge of the sword\, won strength out of weakness\, became mighty in war\, and put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured\, refusing to accept release\, so that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging\, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned\, they were sawn in two\, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats\, destitute\, afflicted\, ill-treated—of whom the world was not worthy—wandering over deserts and mountains\, and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these\, though well attested by their faith\, did not receive what was promised\, since God had foreseen something better for us\, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. \n\nTHE GOSPEL \n(For the Sunday before the Nativity: “The Genealogy”) \nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (1:1-25) \nThe book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ\, the son of David\, the son of Abraham.  Abraham was the father of Isaac\, and Isaac the father of Jacob\, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers\, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar\, and Perez the father of Hezron\, and Hezron the father of Aram\, and Aram the father of Amminadab\, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon\, and Nahshon the father of Salmon\, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab\, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth\, and Obed the father of Jesse\, and Jesse the father of David the king.  And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah\, and Solomon the father of Rehoboam\, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah\, and Abijah the father of Asa\, and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat\, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram\, and Joram the father of Uzziah\, and Uzziah the father of Jotham\, and Jotham the father of Ahaz\, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah\, and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh\, and Manasseh the father of Amon\, and Amon the father of Josiah\, and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers\, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.  And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel\, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel\, and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud\, and Abiud the father of Eliakim\, and Eliakim the father of Azor\, and Azor the father of Zadok\, and Zadok the father of Achim\, and Achim the father of Eliud\, and Eliud the father of Eleazar\, and Eleazar the father of Matthan\, and Matthan the father of Jacob\, and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary\, of whom Jesus was born\, Who is called Christ.  So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations\, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations\, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ were fourteen generations.  Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way.  When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph\, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph\, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame\, resolved to divorce her quietly.  But as he considered this\, behold\, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream\, saying\, “Joseph\, son of David\, do not fear to take Mary your wife\, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son\, and you shall call His Name Jesus\, for He will save His people from their sins.”  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold\, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son\, and His Name shall be called Emmanuel” (which means\, God with us).  When Joseph woke from sleep\, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him; he took his wife\, but knew her not until she had borne a son; and he called His Name Jesus.

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy – Eleventh Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE \n(For St. Eleutherios) \nPrecious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saint. \nWhat shall we render unto the Lord for all that He hath rendered unto us? \nThe Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to St. Timothy. (1:8-18) \nTimothy\, my son\, do not be ashamed then of testifying to our Lord\, nor of me his prisoner\, but share in suffering for the gospel in the power of God\, Who saved us and called us with a holy calling\, not in virtue of our works but in virtue of his own purpose and the grace which he gave us in Christ Jesus ages ago\, and now has manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus\, Who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher\, and therefore I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed\, for I know Whom I have believed\, and I am sure that He is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. Follow the pattern of the sound words which you have heard from me\, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus; guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit Who dwells within us. You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me\, and among them Phygelos and Hermogenes. May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphoros\, for he often refreshed me; he was not ashamed of my chains\, but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me eagerly and found me. May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that Day and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus. \n\nTHE GOSPEL \n(For the Holy Forefathers) \nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (14:16-24) \nThe Lord spoke this parable: “A man once gave a great banquet\, and invited many; and at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited\, ‘Come; for all is now ready.’  But\, one by one\, they all began to make excuses.  The first said to him\, ‘I have bought a field\, and I must go out and see it; I pray you\, have me excused.’  And another said\, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen\, and I go to examine them; I pray you\, have me excused.’  And another said\, ‘I have married a wife\, and therefore I cannot come.’  So the servant came and reported this to his master.  Then the householder in anger said to his servant\, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city\, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.’  And the servant said\, ‘Sir\, what you commanded has been done\, and still there is room.’  And the master said to the servant\, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges\, and compel people to come in\, that my house may be filled.  For I tell you\, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.’  For many are called\, but few are chosen.”

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy – Tenth Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE \n(For the Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost) \nThe Lord will give strength to His people. \nAscribe to the Lord\, O sons of God\, ascribe to the Lord honor and glory. \nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians. (2:14-22) \nBrethren\, Christ is our peace\, Who has made us both one\, and has broken down the dividing wall of hostility\, by abolishing in His flesh the law of commandments and ordinances\, that He might create in Himself one new man in place of the two\, so making peace\, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the Cross\, thereby bringing the hostility to an end.  And He came and preached peace to you\, who were far off\, and peace to those who were near; for through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.  So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners\, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God\, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets\, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone\, in Whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in Whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. \nTHE GOSPEL \n(For the Tenth Sunday of Luke) \nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (13:10-17) \nAt that time\, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her\, He called her and said to her\, “Woman\, you are freed from your infirmity.” And He laid His hands upon her\, and immediately she was made straight\, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue\, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath\, said to the people\, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed\, and not on the Sabbath day.” Then the Lord answered him\, “You hypocrite! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger\, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman\, a daughter of Abraham\, whom Satan bound for eighteen years\, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” As Jesus said this\, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by Him.

SUMMARY:Orthros and Divine Liturgy - Feast of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE \nPrecious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. \nWhat shall I render to the Lord for all that He has given me? \nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews. (13:17-21) \nBrethren\, obey your leaders and submit to them; for they are keeping watch over your souls\, as men who will have to give account.  Let them do this joyfully\, and not sadly\, for that would be of no advantage to you.  Pray for us\, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience\, desiring to act honorably in all things.  I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner.  Now may the God of peace Who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus\, the great shepherd of the sheep\, by the blood of the eternal covenant\, equip you with everything good that you may do His will\, working in you that which is pleasing in His sight\, through Jesus Christ; to Whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. \n\nTHE GOSPEL \nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (6:17-23) \nAt that time\, Jesus stood on a level place\, with a great crowd of His Disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon\, who came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured.  And all the crowd sought to touch Him\, for power came forth from Him and healed them all.  And Jesus lifted up His eyes on His Disciples\, and said: “Blessed are you poor\, for yours is the kingdom of God.  Blessed are you that hunger now\, for you shall be satisfied.  Blessed are you that weep now\, for you shall laugh.  Blessed are you when men hate you\, and when they exclude you and revile you\, and cast out your name as evil\, on account of the Son of man!  Rejoice in that day\, and leap for joy\, for behold\, your reward is great in Heaven.”

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy – Fourteenth Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE \n(For the Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost) \nO Lord\, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance. \nTo Thee\, O Lord\, have I cried\, O my God. \nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians. (2:4-10) \nBrethren\, God\, Who is rich in mercy\, out of the great love with which He loved us\, even when we were dead through our trespasses\, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)\, and raised us up with Him\, and made us sit with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus\, that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.  For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing\, it is the gift of God—not because of works\, lest any man should boast.  For\, we are His workmanship\, created in Christ Jesus for good works\, which God prepared beforehand\, that we should walk in them. \n\nTHE GOSPEL \n(For the Fourteenth Sunday of Luke) \nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (18:35-43) \nAt that time\, when Jesus drew near to Jericho\, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging; and hearing a multitude going by\, he inquired what this meant. They told him\, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” And he cried\, “Jesus\, Son of David\, have mercy on me!” And those who were in front rebuked him\, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more\, “Son of David\, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped\, and commanded him to be brought to him; and when he came near\, Jesus asked him\, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said\, “Lord\, let me receive my sight.” And Jesus said to him\, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus\, glorifying God; and all the people\, when they saw it\, gave praise to God.

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy - Thirteenth Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE\n(For the Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost)\nThou\, O Lord\, shalt preserve us and keep us from this generation.\nSave me\, O Lord\, for the godly man hath disappeared.\nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians. (6:11-18)\nBrethren\, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the Law\, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ\, by which the world has been crucified to me and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything\, nor uncircumcision\, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all\, who walk by this rule\, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit\, brethren. Amen. \nTHE GOSPEL\n(For the Thirteenth Sunday of Luke)\nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (18:18-27)\nAt that time\, a man came testing Jesus and asking\, “Good Teacher\, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him\, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery. Do not kill. Do not steal. Do not bear false witness. Honor your father and mother.’” And the man said\, “All these I have observed from my youth.” And when Jesus heard it\, he said to him\, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor\, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come\, follow Me.” But when the man heard this he became sad\, for he was very rich. Jesus\, seeing him sad\, said\, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Those who heard it said\, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus said\, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy - Ninth Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE\n(For the Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost)\nO Lord\, how magnified are Thy works. In wisdom hast Thou made them all.\nBless the Lord\, O my soul.\nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians. (2:16-20)\nBrethren\, you know that a man is not justified by works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ. Even we have believed in Christ Jesus\, in order to be justified by faith in Christ\, and not by works of the Law\, because by works of the Law shall no one be justified. But if\, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ\, we ourselves were found to be sinners\, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down\, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the Law died to the Law\, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live\, but Christ Who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God\, Who loved me and gave Himself for me. \n\nTHE GOSPEL\n(For the Ninth Sunday of Luke)\nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (12:16-21)\nThe Lord spoke this parable: “The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself\, ‘What shall I do\, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said\, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns\, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul\, Soul\, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease\, eat\, drink\, be merry.’ But God said to him\, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared\, whose will they be?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself\, and is not rich toward God.” As He said this\, Jesus called out\, “He who has ears to hear\, let him hear.”

SUMMARY:Orthros & Divine Liturgy - Eighth Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE\n(For the Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost)\nO chant unto our God\, chant ye. Clap your hands\, all ye nations.\nThe Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians. (1:11-19)\nBrethren\, I would have you know that the Gospel which was preached by me is not man’s gospel. \nTHE GOSPEL\n(For the Eighth Sunday of Luke)\nThe Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (10:25-37)\nAt that time\, a lawyer stood up to put Jesus to the test\, saying\, “Teacher\, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him\, “What is written in the Law? How do you read?” And the lawyer answered\, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart\, and with all your soul\, and with all your strength\, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” And Jesus said to him\, “You have answered right; do this\, and you will live.” But the lawyer\, desiring to justify himself\, said to Jesus\, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied\, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho\, and he fell among robbers\, who stripped him and beat him\, and departed\, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite\, when he came to the place and saw him\, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan\, as he journeyed\, came to where he was; and when he saw him\, he had compassion\, and went to him and bound up his wounds\, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn\, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper\, saying\, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend\, I will repay you when I come back.’ Which of these three\, do you think\, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” The lawyer said\, “The one who showed mercy on him.” And Jesus said to him\, “Go and do likewise.”

SUMMARY:Orthrox & Divine Liturgy - Fifth Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:THE EPISTLE\n(For the Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost)\nThe Lord is my strength and my song. The Lord has chastened me severely.\nThe Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (11:31-12:9)\nBrethren\, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ\, the One who is blessed for evermore\, knows that I do not lie. In Damascus\, the governor under Arétas the king guarded the city of the Damascenes\, willing to seize me\, and through a window I was let down in a basket by the wall\, and escaped his hands. I must boast\, though it is not expedient; but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body\, I do not know\, or whether out of the body\, I do not know; God knows—who was caught up to the third heaven. And I know that this man—whether in the body or out of the body\, I do not know; God knows—was caught up into Paradise\, and heard unspeakable words\, which no person is allowed to utter. On behalf of this one I will boast\, but on my own behalf I will not boast\, except of my infirmities. For if I would desire to boast\, I shall not be foolish\, for I shall speak the truth. But I refrain from it\, lest anyone should think of me above that which he sees me to be\, or hears from me. And to keep me from being exalted above measure through the abundance of revelations\, I was given a thorn in the flesh\, an angel of Satan to buffet me\, to keep me from being exalted above measure. For this thing I beseeched the Lord three times\, that it might depart from me. And He said to me\, “My grace is sufficient for thee\, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore will I rather boast in my infirmities\, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. \nTHE GOSPEL\n(For the Fifth Sunday of Luke)\nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (16:19-31)\nThe Lord said\, “There was a rich man\, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus\, full of sores\, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades\, being in torment\, he lifted up his eyes\, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he called out\, ‘Father Abraham\, have mercy upon me\, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said\, ‘Son\, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things\, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here\, and you are in anguish. And besides all this\, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed\, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able\, and none may cross from there to us.’ And he said\, ‘Then I beg you\, father\, to send him to my father’s house\, for I have five brothers\, so that he may warn them\, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said\, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said\, ‘No\, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead\, they will repent.’ He said to him\, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets\, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

SUMMARY:Divine Liturgy - 7th Sunday of Luke
DESCRIPTION:Click here for the complete Oct 27 bulletin \nTHE EPISTLE\n(For the Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost) \nThe Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (9:6-11)\nBrethren\, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly\, and he who sows bountifully will\nalso reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind\, not reluctantly or under\ncompulsion\, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing\nin abundance\, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance\nfor every good work. As it is written\, “He scatters abroad\, he gives to the poor; his righteousness\nendures forever.” He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply\nyour resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way\nfor great generosity\, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. \n  \nTHE GOSPEL\n(For the Seventh Sunday of Luke) \nThe Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (8:41-56)\nAt that time\, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus\, who was a ruler of the synagogue;\nand falling at Jesus’ feet he besought Him to come to his house\, for he had an only daughter\, about\ntwelve years of age\, and she was dying. As Jesus went\, the people pressed round Him. And a\nwoman\, who had had a flow of blood for twelve years\, and had spent all her living upon physicians\,\nand could not be healed by anyone\, came up behind Him\, and touched the fringe of His garment;\nand immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said\, “Who was it that touched Me?” When\nall denied it\, Peter said\, “Master\, the multitudes surround Thee and press upon Thee! And Thou\nsayest\, ‘Who touched Me?’” But Jesus said\, “Someone touched Me; for I perceive that power has\ngone forth from Me.” And when the woman saw that she was not hidden\, she came trembling\,\nand falling down before Him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched Him\,\nand how she had been immediately healed. And Jesus said to her\, “Daughter\, your faith has made\nyou well; go in peace.” While Jesus was still speaking\, a man from the ruler’s house came and\nsaid\, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher anymore.” But Jesus on hearing this\nanswered him\, “Do not fear; only believe\, and she shall be well.” And when Jesus came to the\nhouse\, He permitted no one to enter with Him\, except Peter and James and John\, and the father\nand mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but Jesus said\, “Do not weep;\nfor she is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him\, knowing that she was dead. But taking\nher by the hand Jesus called\, saying\, “Child\, arise.” And her spirit returned\, and she got up at\nonce; and Jesus directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed;\nbut He charged them to tell no one what had happened.
